Pécs Jury sentenced the man from Somogy, who doused his partner with gasoline and then set her on fire, to five years in prison due to attempted murder committed with extraordinary cruelty.
According to a statement sent to the telegraph office of the General Prosecutor’s Office in Pécs, last June, the man was doing renovation work in his home with his family members, and then in the afternoon he started arguing drunkenly with his partner, who wanted to move away from him. The enraged man picked up a gasoline bottle and sprinkled its contents on his partner’s head and clothes. The woman ran, called for help on the phone and waited in front of the house on the street. Finally, the police who arrived at the scene prevented the man from flicking a smoldering cigarette butt at the woman, and also took away the lighter he was clutching in his other hand. The defense appealed against the previous verdict of the Kaposvár Court of First Instance for acquittal. The prosecution made a motion to uphold the decision, and the jury decided accordingly.
